Facebook
utilises data from third-party websites in addition to information about your
behaviour on Facebook and its connected products, such as Instagram, to target
you with advertisements.
With the launch
of a new tool, Facebook is now allowing users to see precisely which
third-party applications and websites share their data with Facebook. A toggle
is also provided in the tool to turn this off.
To use the new
function, go to Facebook.com's top right corner, tap the down-pointing arrow,
and choose settings. If you are using a mobile device, open the Facebook app
and hit the three-line symbol in the bottom-right corner. Scroll down and
select ‘Settings & Privacy,’ then select ‘Settings.’
• Select the header ‘Your
Facebook Information.’ It is located at the top of the left column on the
desktop.
•
On the page, click the heading ‘Off-Facebook
Activity.’
· Select ‘Manage Your
Off-Facebook Activity’ next. You will be prompted to enter your Facebook login
at this point.

Once you log in,
this page will display which websites and applications are providing Facebook
with data. Each app has further information on how it shares data with
Facebook, what kind of data it shares, and what Facebook does with that data
available by tapping on it. You may obtain activity information about Facebook
sharing from these pages as well.
You may remove
the third-party websites that shared information with Facebook from the ‘Manage
Your Off-Facebook Activity’ page by simply hitting the sizable ‘Clear History’
button at the top of the screen.
However, it will
not prevent future information exchange between the applications and Facebook. Either
turn off everything or disable data sharing for each app individually to stop
future data sharing.
To choose which
applications to prohibit, simply pick the one you want to disable, scroll down,
and choose ‘Turn off future activity.’ For each website, you wish to disable,
repeat these steps.
Click ‘Manage
Future Activity’ to bring up a pop-up where you should click ‘Manage Future
Activity’ to stop future data sharing in bulk. This will direct you to another
page where a toggle for ‘Future Off-Facebook
Activity’ can be changed.
Everything will
be off as a result. Additionally, this will log you out of any applications
that allow you to sign in with Facebook activity, which may include well-known
services like Spotify, Venmo, and Airbnb.
I disabled a lot of applications one by one so that I would not sign out of any of the services I use. Go to the ‘Manage Future Activity’ screen, then tap on ‘Activity You have Turned Off,’ if you ever need to restart a service. You can see the applications you have disabled there. You can choose to let activity from that website connect to your Facebook account if you click on them.
